#’Pissed off’ Doug Pederson goes off in heated Eagles interview

Doug Pederson was still fuming Monday about his team’s loss the previous day against the Giants.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach threatened to hang up right at the outset of his weekly appearance on 94WIP in the City of Brotherly Love when the hosts led off the segment by informing him of a poll that 72 percent of fans blamed coaching for the 27-17 loss to Big Blue.

“Thanks for the lead-in. That was awesome. Listen, that just puts me in a great mood today. I’m already in a good mood, appreciate it,” Pederson said to host Angelo Cataldi. “Should I hang up now? I’m filling my obligation right now. If I hang up, I filled my obligation. I’m pissed off, Angelo.

“I’m pissed off at myself. I’m pissed off at the way we played. It frustrates me to no end…Blame it on me all you want. I’m a big guy, I can handle it, that’s fine. But we’re still self-inflicting ourselves. We’re killing ourselves, shooting ourselves in the foot. All of those cliche little statements are still showing up and it’s frustrating.”

The Eagles still lead the NFC East at 3-5-1, but Pederson pointed to his team committing 11 penalties for 74 yards and converting none of their nine third-down opportunities as tangible reasons for the divisional loss that helped the Giants (3-7) move within 1 ½ games of first place.

“Number one, I look at 11 penalties. Let’s just start there. Let’s start with 11 penalties. Whether we agree with them or not, there’s 11 penalties,” Pederson said. “Let’s start with 0-for-9 on third down, let’s look at that. Penalties are discipline things. Third down are execution things and also play-calling things.

“And when I look at this tape today that’s exactly what jumps off on the screen. I’m not going to sit here and make excuses and say we’ve got young players. No, that’s over. We’re 10 weeks into this thing.”

Philadelphia’s next five opponents all have at least six wins, beginning with Cleveland (6-3) in Week 11. Game against Seattle (6-3), Green Bay (7-2), New Orleans (7-2) and Arizona (6-3) follow on the schedule.
