Pierce Brosnan Gives His Blessing to Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the Next Potential James Bond

A retired 007 is giving his stamp of approval.

Out of all the contenders that are speculated to be filling in the shoes of the next James Bond, Pierce Brosnan has some words of encouragement for Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who he previously worked with in the 2009 drama, The Greatest.

“I think he would be very good,” Brosnan said to Yahoo Entertainment. “I cast him in one of the movies I made a long time ago called The Greatest, actually and he played ‘the Greatest.’”

The MobLand actor continued to praise Taylor-Johnson, adding, “This young man came on the set and took the space, filled the space with passion and energy. So yeah, I think if he wished it, wanted it and got it, he would be great.”

Brosnan, of course, played the iconic suave secret agent in the films Golden Eye (1995), Die Another Day 1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Tomorrow Never Dies (2002). Daniel Craig then took over the job with his 007 films Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021).

Although, regarding future projects, Amazon MGM Studios took control of the James Bond franchise and its projects going forward earlier this year.

But as far as who will be the next Bond, The Hollywood Reporter‘s senior writer Seth Abramovitch predicted last year who he thinks the role will go to. “Bond series producer Barbara Broccoli has always led from the gut, not caved to popular opinion. Lest we forget, the fair-haired Craig was considered a highly controversial choice when he was first announced in 2005. 2025 will thus be the year we finally learn the identity of the new James Bond, and it will not be Taylor-Johnson,” he believes. “It will be an English actor poised on the cusp of superstardom — familiar to audiences but not too familiar, with a seductive smile, ease with a tossed-off one-liner and charisma to spare. The next James Bond will be Josh O’Connor.” Time will tell.
