#Picturehouse Takes ‘From Hilde, With Love’ for U.K.

Picturehouse Entertiainment has picked up From Hilde, With Love, the new drama from German director Andreas Dresen (Stopped on Track) for the U.K. and Ireland, adding to a swath of European deals for the title, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival last month.

Liv Lisa Fries (Babylon Berlin) stars in the 1940s-set drama as Hilde Coppi, a member of a left-wing anti-Nazi resistance cell. Beta, which is handling international sales for the movie, previously announced deals for From Hilde, With Love with Haut et Court in France, Teodora in Italy, Angel Film across Scandinavia, September Film for Benelux and Outsider for Portugal, among other deals. Palace Film will release From Hilde, With Love in Australia and New Zealand. Pandora Film Verleih is handling the German release and will bow the movie in German-speaking territories this October.

Beta also announced a series of deals for its upcoming Bill Nighy road movie 500 Miles, with True Brit Ent. taking the U.K., Kismet snatching up Australia and New Zealand, Front Row handling release in the Middle East, Maestro Distribution taking Italy, September Film acquiring for Benelux, Feelgood for Greece and Discovery for former Yugoslavia. Morgan Matthews (X+Y) will direct 500 Miles from a script by Malcolm Campbell (What Richard Did) based on the novel  Charlie and Me by Mark Lowery. Production is set to begin later this year. Jojo Rabbit breakout Roman Griffin Davis will star alongside Nighy.

Beta also scored sales for its Joseph Goebbels biopic Führer and Seducer, with Condor Entertainment acquiring French rights, adding to a series of deals announced ahead of Berlin, including to A Contracorriente for Spain, Films4You for Portugal, AT Entertainment for Japan and Moving Story Entertainment for Australia/New Zealand. The historic drama from director and historian Joachim A. Lang featuring Robert Stadlober (Summer Storm) as Goebbels, the infamous Nazi Minister of Propaganda, and Fritz Karl (Sisi) as Adolf Hitler.

Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace, a true-life political thriller about the life, and mysterious death, of the Swedish diplomat, U.N. Secretary-General and Nobel Peace prize-winner Dag Hammarskjöld, had its market premiere at Berlin’s European Film Market and also sold strongly, with Palace Films taking Australia and New Zealand, Film Europe buying for the Czech Republic and Beta Film for Bulgaria. Hammarskjöld pre-sold well ahead of Berlin, with deals for Italy (Rai Cinema), France (Swift Productions), Spain (Twelve Oaks), Portugal (Outsider Films) and Former Yugoslavia (Discovery) announced prior to the market. Per Fly (Borgen) directed and co-wrote the film, which stars Mikael Persbrandt (In A Better World) as Hammarskjöld, who died in mysterious circumstances during a plane crash in 1961.

The Light, Tom Tykwer’s first film since 2016’s A Hologram for the King, racked up pre-sales to Benelux (September Film), Greece (TFG) and former Yugoslavia (Discovery). The film, set in modern-day Berlin, stars Lar Eidinger, Nicolette Krebitz and Tala al Deen. X Verleih will release The Light in Germany in October.
