#Bill de Blasio’s rotten, no-good Columbus Day

Mayor Bill de Blasio had a truly humiliating Columbus Day — and deserved it.

For starters, the Columbus Citizens Foundation declined to invite the mayor, who claims to be a proud Italian-American, to speak at its virtual Columbus Day festivities. Worse, it named Gov. Andrew Cuomo — who delights in torturing de Blasio — as its honorary grand marshal.

The day also brought the dedication of the city’s new statue of Mother Frances Cabrini, which likely never would have happened if the mayor had his way: First Lady Chirlane McCray infamously declined to honor Cabrini as part of her “She Built NYC” program, even though the public gave the humanitarian worker the most nominations.

Indeed, it was Cuomo who stepped in to provide state funding for the statue — and who showed up for Monday’s unveiling with a live press conference in Battery Park.

De Blasio managed to be out of town for the day. We guess he would’ve been celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day, anyway — the rival holiday that basically treats Columbus as one of history’s greatest monsters.

At this point the mayor, who opted to change his name to Bill de Blasio as he was entering politics, might as well go back to being Warren Wilhelm.
