In the It Is What It Is podcast with the Le Batard Show, Paul Pierce had another controversial hot take. Pierce, 45, said explained in the discussion why he thinks he’s better than Dwyane Wade. The Truth’s argument is that, during his time in Boston, if he ever had the chance to team up with 2006 Shaquille O’Neal or make a big three with LeBron James and Chris Bosh, he would definitely win a championship.

“My skills were unappreciated because I didn’t get a lot of great players,” Pierce added. Take note, he played with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo and won one championship in 2008. Paul Pierce may sound delusional at times, but he somehow has a point in this one. You can’t deny that he would 99% win a chip with Shaq let alone with LeBron. That would be a dream team-up. However, claiming that he is a better player than Dwyane Wade is kind of an overstretch. He also argued he is a better scorer and a better shooter, especially from the three-point line. The only thing, according to him, that Wade is better is that he is flashier and more athletic. Although, he does have the cooler nickname! Because of this, Twitter had a good laugh and are exhilarated with Pierce’s takes.

Four years ago, Pierce also said that he had a better career than Dwyane Wade!

This won’t be the first time Pierce takes a jab at Wade. In 2019, back when he was still with ESPN, The Truth made a bold take saying he had a better career than the Miami Heat legend.

Unfortunately, he received backlash and almost nobody agreed with him. From then on, his opinions weren’t taken seriously by any NBA fan and eventually, his career as an NBA analyst went downhill from there.

What better way to settle this than compare both Paul Pierce and Dwyane Wade based on their career achievements, accolades, stats, and how they impacted the game? Below is a factual comparison that we have gathered for you.

Accolade-wise, we can see that Dwyane Wade achieved more than Paul Pierce. Wade even played three seasons less than Pierce, which makes it even more surprising. In addition to that, the 2016-2017 version of Wade was when he started to decline which means his final four seasons, he was already pretty washed.

Now, to see who had the better stats in their playing career! Pierce does prove he’s a better scorer by putting up more career rebounds and points (3,000 more than Wade). But, again, he played three more seasons and has been into 300 more games than The Flash. If they played the same number of seasons and games, maybe Wade could have done more. Also, Dwyane was a better defender despite being only 6-foot-4.

So, to bring an end to this debacle, I’m going to say it!

Some of you may burn me to the ground, but I’m all for it. Personally, I think Dwyane Wade is a better overall player than Paul Pierce. Not taking anything away from Pierce, but that is what I think, and probably what most NBA fans think. We all remember that three seasons into the league, Dwyane Wade was already leading the Miami Heat to a championship. He did not win a regular season MVP, unfortunately, but in his best year, he was putting up 30 points a night. So, the narrative that Paul Pierce is a better scorer is somewhat untrue. Did you know that PP34 never cracked the 30 PPG average? His best year, he only averaged 26.8 points in 2006. Sadly, Wade would suffer injuries that would later affect his career. Regardless, they are two of the best players to ever play in the NBA and I’m proud I got to see them play and go at each other.
