A new “Bunker” visual and “Promotion File” video for the NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a anime have been released. Both provide a look at the YoRHa commander who, as in the NieR: Automata video game, is voiced by Chiaki Kano.

The “Bunker” visual also provides a look at the YoRHa Operators, while the video previews the color palette for the anime’s Bunker scenes. In the game, the Bunker sections are presented in black-and-white.

Aside from Kano, it was revealed that Keiko Isobe and Meari Hatsumi are reprising their roles as Operator 6O and Operator 21O respectively.

NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a is set to premiere in January 2023. Ryouji Masuyama (Blend S, The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls assistant director) is serving as the director and co-series composer, with the game’s creator Yoko Taro as co-series composer. Other staff include Jun Nakai (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note) as character designer and chief animation director and MONACA (Assassin’s Pride) as music composer. 

Yui Ishikawa and Natsuki Hanae are reprising their roles as lead characters 2B and 9S respectively.

NieR: Automata was released in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC as a sequel to 2010’s Nier. The PlatinumGames-developed and Square Enix-published title takes place thousands of years after its predecessor, and sees a group of androids battling to reclaim Earth from an army of alien-created machines. Like the first Nier, which was developed by the now-defunct Cavia, the gameplay featured third-person hack-and-slash combat with shoot-em-up and side-scrolling elements.

Yoko Taro previously revealed that the anime’s title has the “Ver 1.1a” affix because “the title NieR: Automata was a story we created to be a game, so copying it as is wouldn’t make an interesting story for an anime. So I brought up the idea of changing things around.”
