#Patty Jenkins lands new Star Wars movie ‘ Rogue Squadron’

“Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins’ next project will take her to a galaxy far, far away.

Jenkins will helm the next installment of George Lucas’ iconic intergalactic franchise, “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron,” Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed Thursday.

The announcement was made during Disney Investor Day, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Rogue Squadron will “introduce a new generation of Star Wars pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing high-speed thrill ride,” Kennedy said of the upcoming movie.

In the Star Wars universe, Rogue Squadron is the group of rebels that Luke Skywalker joined at the end of “A New Hope,” named after the group of people who sacrificed themselves to acquire the Death Star plans in “Rogue One.”

Jenkins, who will be the first woman to direct a Star Wars feature film, announced her involvement in the project by filming a Twitter video outlining several personal reasons why she wanted to be involved in the project.

Along with “Rogue Squadron,” Lucasfilm announced a spinoff starring “The Clone Wars” and “The Mandalorian” character Ashoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson. Hayden Christensen will also revive his role as Anakin Skywalker (and later, Darth Vader) in the upcoming “Obi-wan Kenobi” series on Disney Plus.

The tentative date for Rouge Squadron to fly into theaters is Christmas 2023.
