#Patrick Reed sinks hole-in-one during US Open first round

Patrick Reed’s quest for his first US Open title already has been highlighted by his first hole-in-one at a major tournament.

The 2018 Masters champ one-hopped his drive on the 165-yard, par-3 seventh hole into the cup during Thursday’s first round of the Open at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck.

Reed previously had recorded just one ace in his pro career, at the 2015 Houston Open.

Reed’s shot marked the second straight year someone has carded a “1” at the US Open after Rory Sabbatini nailed an ace in 2019 at Pebble Beach.

Reed, playing with Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama in a morning threesome, had posted a double bogey on the fifth hole and a birdie on No.6 before recording the 46th hole-in-in U.S. Open history.

Reed’s eagle also represented the third ace in the six US Opens played at Winged Foot, joining Mark McCumber (1984) and Peter Hedblom (2006).
