It was an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal have been cast in a new movie about the tumultuous making of “The Godfather,” according to Deadline.

The film, “Francis and the Godfather,” centers on director Francis Ford Coppola as he creates the iconic 1972 film. Isaac, 41, will play Coppola, while Gyllenhaal, 39, will play producer Robert Evans.

Evans and Coppola clashed behind the scenes of the mobster flick, in part over the film location and the casting of Marlon Brando as mob boss Vito Corleone and Al Pacino as his son Michael. Add that to the fact that real-life mobsters were none too pleased with the film airing their dirty laundry, and it was essentially a miracle that the movie was even finished.

“Out of the madness of production, and against all odds, a classic film happened,” “Francis and the Godfather” director Barry Levinson said of the subject of his new film.

The making-of movie reportedly has the blessing of Coppola himself. “Any movie that Barry Levinson makes about anything will be interesting and worthwhile,” Coppola told Deadline.
