“#Protesters gather at Columbus police station over death of teen”
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the Columbus police headquarters on Tuesday night to protest the fatal police shooting of 15-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant.
The crowd pushed past police barriers to get near the building, where they approached officers and chanted the name of Bryant, who was shot dead outside of a home earlier in the day.
“She was just a kid,” the group also yelled.
Cops with bicycles pushed protesters back and threatened to deploy pepper spray. But the demonstrations in the city’s downtown appeared to remain rather calm, according to social media footage.
While protesters were outside the headquarters, city officials released bodycam footage of the fatal shooting.
In the recording, Bryant appeared to attempt to stab two people with a knife before the officer fired several shots, striking her.
Police were initially called to the home for a call of attempted stabbing.
It wasn’t immediately who made the 911 call.
An aunt of Bryant has told The Columbus Dispatch that the teen lived in a foster home on the block.
