If you like your high school romantic comedies to be a bit on the gloomy and emo side, then you’ll soon be in luck, because a 2023 TV anime adaptation has been announced for The Dangers in My Heart (known in Japan as Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu), a manga by Norio Sakurai about an anti-social boy and a popular but quirky girl who grow closer to one another.

No information has yet been revealed about the TV anime’s cast or staff, but an original image (below) by manga author Norio Sakurai has been published to celebrate the announcement. An official website and Twitter feed have also been published.

The original The Dangers in My Heart manga is serialized in Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross digital manga magazine, and an English language version is also available from Seven Seas Entertainment, who describe the story of the series as follows:

Kyotaro Ichikawa, a boy barely clinging to the bottom rung of his school’s social ladder, secretly believes he’s the tortured lead in some psychological thriller. He spends his days dreaming up ways to disrupt his classmates’ peaceful lives and pining after Anna Yamada, the class idol. But Kyotaro’s not nearly the troubled teen he pretends to be…and it turns out Anna’s a bit odd herself!
