#One dead, three injured in Long Island bodega shooting

A bodega owner is dead and three others have been injured — one critically — after a shooting Saturday night in Suffolk County, according to reports.

The gunfire broke out at 6:10 p.m. at the La Vaquita Corp. deli on Great Neck Road in Copiague, Newsday reported.

The three victims were taken to local hospitals; the shooter was being sought.

The bodega owner’s son told CBS2 that he was in the basement when he heard gunfire; he soon learned that one of the bullets had claimed his father’s life.

“One person inside was dead on arrival,” Lt. Kevin Beyer told the station.

“Three other persons were shot. They were taken to area hospitals. One is in serious condition. Two are in critical condition.”

The bodega owner, whose name was not immediately confirmed, was well-liked, neighbor Raymond Pena told the station.

“The whole town will be crying,” Pena said.

“They’re going to be very upset because he’s so good for everybody. When he knows you’re hungry, he’s like, ‘Come on, come on, what can I give you? What can I do for you?’ Give it for free, give the food for free to anybody because he’s so good,” Pena said.

“He’s like a little kid, the owner. The best guy in the town.”

Suffolk County police were requesting that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS; callers will remain anonymous.
