The hero cop headed home Saturday afternoon after being released from New York-Presbyterian-Weill Corner Medical Center, three days after suffering blows from a violent protester who cracked him over the head with a cane.
Mack, sporting a patch over his left eye, exited the hospital in a wheel chair down a hallway flanked with his fellow officers, who were wearing masks as they applauded his recovery. Mack later walked under his own power.
“I bled for this city. I’d do it again tomorrow,” an emotional Mack said, thanking his NYPD comrades and asking we “remember all the people who died on 9/11.”
Mack was among a group of officers who were attacked while making an arrest Wednesday on the Brooklyn Bridge.
A New Jersey woman was arrested and charged in the assaults after the NYPD officers were bloodied and battered by anti-cop activists.
NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan was among those injured during a scuffle with protesters.
Clergy and community members were among those who joined Mack’s family to say “thank you.”
The organizers of the Jericho Unity March known as the United Clergy Coalition were on hand to thank Mack “for his service and unselfish sacrifice of his own safety to protect them and their right to march.”
