Police Commissioner Dermot Shea offered his condolences early Monday to the distraught mom whose 1-year-old son was fatally shot during a cookout at a Brooklyn park.

The top cop, joined by Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison, spoke with the mother of little Davell Gardner, who was struck by gunfire during a late Sunday night barbecue on the sidewalk in front of Raymond Bush Playground on Madison Street and Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The woman was outside on a porch across the street — about 25 feet from the crime scene — joined by several loved ones, when the police officials approached.

Their conversation was not audible, and Shea did not reply when questioned about what he said to the grieving mom.

Asked if he came to express his condolences he replied, “Exactly, yes.”

“Last night, 4 people were shot at a Brooklyn cookout, including a 1-year-old child who died from his injuries,” the commissioner tweeted. “These are the very real people affected by senseless gun violence.”

A short time after the officials spoke with her, Davell’s mother told the Post, “I gotta watch my 1-year-old son dead on a table. What am I gonna do. What do you want?”

At the scene, cordoned off with yellow tape, a small charcoal grill could be seen on the ground near a baby carriage, a table with food, condiments and charcoal lighter fluid.

A bicycle and a small black Bluetooth speaker, three egg crates, two child-size chairs and two adult-sized plastic chairs were also on the scene.

Davell’s mother said her son was sitting in a black plastic chair when he was shot.

He was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was initially expected to survive. He was pronounced dead just after 2:30 a.m., according to sources.

Three other men, ages 27, 35, and 36, were also wounded in the shooting and expected to survive, sources and police said. They were shot in the ankle, groin and leg, respectively.

At least 17 shell casings were marked on the street near the scene early Monday.

No arrests were immediately made.

NYPD Chief of Community Affairs Jeffrey Maddrey also tweeted about the violence early Monday.

“A one-year-old child is dead,” he wrote. “The baby was with his family enjoying a Sunday night in the Summer when someone started shooting. Three people were injured and the baby was killed. This. Must.STOP! We as a community, we as a police department denounce this disgusting violence.”
