#NYPD bumps up reward for killer of twin babies in Bronx

Two baby boys found dumped behind a Bronx building five months ago were beaten to death — and cops are now upping the reward to help collar their killer.

“What we’re looking for is the public’s help,” said Lt. William O’Toole, the commanding officer of the Bronx homicide unit.

“We did a pretty exhausting investigation so far but there’s not much that goes on in this city that someone doesn’t know about.”

O’Toole said the NYPD has treated their death as a homicide since the start, but cops have yet to land any solid leads.

The reward was bumped up to $10,000 Thursday from $2,500.

The NYPD respond to 1460 College Ave., Bronx, where the bodies of two infants (possibly twins) were found, allegedly stabbed to death, and dumped behind the building.

The building superintendent found the infants, who were full-term twins, wrapped in a paper bag around 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 9 behind a Claremont high-rise on College Avenue and East 171st Street, according to police.

NYPD officials say the video from the area does not show who dumped the bag with the babies’ bodies, who were naked and dead for less than 12 hours when found.

Initial reports of the babies being strangled by an umbilical cord or dying from a fall have been ruled out, O’Toole said.

“It doesn’t appear to be from a fall,” he said. “It appears to be either they were hit or purposeful blunt force trauma.”

“It’s kind of shocking to anybody to have two full-term newborn babies thrown in the garbage in the rear of the building,” O’Toole said.

The city medical examiner found after an autopsy on Wednesday that twins died from blunt force trauma and their deaths were ruled homicides, according to cops.

Building residents have worked with the NYPD, but cops have yet to track down the mother.

“Either she gave birth to these babies and someone threw them in the garbage, either some domestic or relationship situation she was in,” O’Toole said. “We would love to speak to the mother and help her, obviously, if she is in a desperate situation.”

Police have ruled out the babies coming from a nearby homeless shelter.
