#NYC man Donnell Riggins arrested for July 4th murder

A Brooklyn man was arrested and charged Friday for fatally shooting a man during a fight over New York City’s violent Fourth of July weekend.

Donnell Riggins, 38, was nabbed following a month-long investigation into the murder of 40-year-old Omar Guzman, who was one of more than two dozen people shot over the bloody holiday weekend.

According to police, the beef between the two men started around 11 p.m. on July 4 after Riggins confronted Guzman and his pals for leaning or eating on his car on Central Avenue in Bushwick.

The beef escalated, and Riggins allegedly shot Guzman in the legs and torso before fleeing.

EMS responded to the scene and transported Guzman to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead more than two weeks later on July 21.

Riggins was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said.

Shootings in the Big Apple dropped by 35 percent while gun busts were significantly up last month compared to last year, NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said Thursday.

Murders also decreased nearly 50 percent compared to the same time period in 2020, Shea said.
