The Queens man who allegedly shot a former SUNY football player over a bodega beef has been charged with attempted murder, officials said.

Jeffrey Thurston, 27, was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and felony assault on Thursday, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

“This kind of gun violence is unacceptable. A young man is now fighting for his life because of a petty incident that spiraled out of control with a gun,” Katz said.

Thurston allegedly pulled a gun on 20-year-old Malachi Capers after a brawl inside 136 Deli & Grill on Springfield Boulevard in Queens on Monday and shot Capers once in the abdomen.

The near-deadly encounter was captured on surveillance video.

Capers, a student at SUNY Buffalo where he is majoring in psychology and a former freshman football player at the school, remains in critical condition, Katz said.

Thurston’s arraignment was still pending Thursday afternoon.
