#NY Times ousts editor who said she had ‘chills’ watching Biden plane land

A New York Times editor’s contract has been canceled after she tweeted she had “chills” watching Joe Biden’s plane ahead of his inauguration.

“Biden’s plane landing at Joint Field Andrews. I have chills,” Lauren Wolfe, an editor working on the Live section of the New York Times, tweeted on Tuesday.

In a since deleted tweet, she also posted, “The pettiness of the Trump admin for not sending a military plane to bring him to DC as is tradition is mortifying. Childish.”

Only a day before Wolfe’s tweets, Cliff Levy, an associate managing editor at the Times, had tweeted, “Core to the @nytimes mission: We will scrutinize the incoming administration just as thoroughly as we did the outgoing one.”

A day later, that prompted a response on Twitter: “What about Lauren Wolfe’s ‘chills’? Is that ‘scrutiny’ or just more Pom-Pom waving?”

According to journalist Yashar Ali, who first reported on her ouster citing two unnamed sources, Wolfe deleted the tweets after she “learned that Biden chose to take his own plane.”

The news set off a Twitter storm of criticism.

“Thanks to Lauren Wolfe for reaffirming the fact that the NYT is a joke,’” tweeted ShaneLock8. “It is not a newspaper but a propaganda rag for the Left. All impartiality is gone.”

Wolfe at first hit back angrily against the critics according to the Daily Mail, but she’s subsequently deleted the tweets.

Once news of Wolfe’s firing spread, there were also people defending her.

“I think it’s ridiculous that Lauren Wolfe’s contract was canceled because she said she had chills watching Biden getting sworn in, most of us can relate to that and it was very CHILDISH of trump not sending a gov plane,” DianneCraig@lilgaga55 tweeted. “Not many were reprimanded for telling lies etc.”

Another said that Wolfe’s words were no worse than a top anchor at CNN.

“Lauren Wolfe getting fired by @nytimes for what she wrote could easily apply to others like Jake Tapper,” tweeted another user.

Wolfe could not be reached and the Times had not immediately responded to questions about her status on Friday.
