“#NY increasing capacity at arenas next month”
Large indoor arenas in New York can expand to 25 percent capacity starting May 19 — while museums and zoos can boost to 50 percent beginning next week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday.
Movie theaters also will be able to increase the number of film fans in seats to 33 percent as of next Monday, the governor said.
The expansion of indoor capacity at New York City-area sporting venues such as Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and Nassau Coliseum on Long Island will come just in time for the NBA and NHL post-seasons.
The massive facilities are currently only allowed 10 percent capacity amid COVID-19 restrictions.
Museums and zoos in the state are currently at 33 percent, while movie theaters have been at 25 percent.
