#No Way Home’ remains atop box office

Peter Parker remained picture perfect Friday as “Spider-Man: No Way Home” again led the box office to start the weekend with $8.3 million in ticket sales.

The Sony flick, which became the first pandemic-era movie to eclipse $1 billion in global box office sales over Christmas weekend, has now pulled in more than $644 million domestically and another $759 million from international audiences, according to Box Office Mojo.

Box office experts predicted that the latest installment of the web slinger’s story could net up to $27 million in its fourth weekend of release, Variety reported. It’s already the eighth-highest grossing film to date at the domestic box office, and would pass “Titantic” and “Jurassic World” if it performs as expected this weekend.

The superhero movie led a light night of attendance in theaters. In second place was “Sing 2,” with $2.6 million in ticket sales. That brought Universal’s animated musical sequel up to $22.3 million since its Dec. 22 premiere.

In third place, “The 355,” sold just $1.7 million in tickets in a disappointing debut. Universal’s star-studded spy flick starring Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger and Fan Bingbing received mixed reviews.

Spy spoof “The King’s Man” was in fourth place to start the weekend with $900,000 in receipts. Rounding out the top five was “American Underdog,” a biopic about retired NFL quarterback Kurt Warner than netted $730,000.
