What is Contraband in Starfield?
Contrabands are illegal items and cargo in Starfield that the players may encounter while exploring the many in-game planets. These are marked with a yellow tag in order for you to recognize them.
- Much of these contrabands include stuff like banned drugs, AI/Mech components, xenowarfare tech, stolen files, harvested organs, and heretical scripture. You are mainly going to find them within abandoned bases and research facilities.
- You will be able to sell them for a high price but also need to be careful while carrying them. Your ship will be scanned for illegal objects before you proceed to enter a planet.
- If the authorities discover you with contraband, they will immediately detain you and seize your illicit possessions.
- However, there are ways through which you can smuggle and sell off these valuables without getting caught. We will be discussing them in the next section.
How to Smuggle Contraband in Starfield
You will need to build special storage modifications into your spaceship for smuggling contraband. Follow the steps that are given below for this purpose.
- Head over to a shipbuilder station in order to carry out the necessary modifications to your ship.
- From there, you will be able to purchase storage systems that are labeled as “Shielded Cargo.” These will allow you to hide the contraband inside of them.
- You can choose from multiple options with different costs and capacities. Make a purchase decision based on how much contraband you plan to carry.
- Always remember to put the contraband into these storage spaces. Otherwise, you will be caught by the law enforcement organizations upon scanning of the ship.
How to Sell Contraband
- Navigate to the “Wolf” planetary system located just at the top-right side of the Alpha Centauri. From there, head over to the planet at the left (marked in red) called The Den.
- On this planet, you can find a buyer/seller representing the Trade Authority. You can sell the contraband items to him for a high amount of in-game currency.
- If he runs out of money after a few deals, you can try to reset the shop. Using the ‘Wait’ mechanic, fast forward to 24 hours, and the NPC will regain his money. After this, you will be able to continue the trade.
