#No NYPD cops disciplined for violating mask rules, despite complaints

NYPD officials have not fined or disciplined a single police officer for failing to wear a face covering — despite receiving more than 150 related complaints from New Yorkers.

The Civilian Complaint Review Board, a police watchdog group, has referred 156 complaints about “NYPD members of service not wearing masks to the NYPD” since May, an agency spokesman told The Post.

Yet cops have only gotten verbal reprimands with no associated discipline.

“The Mayor and Police Commissioner Shea are committed to ensuring all New Yorkers wear masks, including the members of the NYPD,” City Hall spokeswoman Julia Arredondo told The Post.

“We are taking important steps to reinforce the mandate that all officers must wear masks and enforce appropriate discipline for non-compliance,” Arredondo said.

The mayor’s office has finally said it will now enforce the mandate following pressure from the public and lawmakers and months of city officials downplaying the issue.

Arredondo vowed that any documented non-compliance will result in an investigation and discipline if substantiated. Police officials will now hand out masks at roll call and remind officers during each tour to wear the face coverings.

Mayor de Blasio said last week that mask-less cops should face unspecified penalties, but he wasn’t aware if any violations had been handed down.

On Friday NYPD officials issued an administrative bulletin, telling all members of the department, “They are required to wear face coverings at all times when performing duties in public areas and Department facilities and whenever social distancing is not possible.”

Forty-six NYPD members have died from COVID-related illnesses — they were memorialized Monday.
