The judge’s jewelry caught the eye of some Twitter users.
Twitter users accused Judge Amy Coney Barrett of wearing “coronavirus” earrings on Tuesday during her confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court.
One of the first individuals to make the claim was Lizz Winstead, co-creator of the Daily Show.
“Nice to see #AmyConeyBarrett has chosen to adorn herself in Corona virus earrings. #SCOTUS,” she tweeted.
While Winstead’s tweet is almost certainly just a joke—missed by conservative aggregator Twitchy—the allegation spread online among users who appeared to find it humorous.
“Watching the Supreme Court hearings,” @AnnMaradiegue said. “Has any one else noticed how Amy Coney Barrett’s earrings resemble renderings of the Coronavirus?”
One person even compared the earrings to First Lady Melania Trump’s infamous “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” jacket.
In reality, of course, Barrett’s earrings do not resemble the coronavirus. And if it was a statement, no one understands what it might be.
Close-up images show Barrett’s jewelry to be common ornate filigree drop earrings, not a coronavirus molecule.
Incredibly, coronavirus jewelry does exist. Everything from COVID-themed necklaces and earrings are readily available online.
