A New Jersey cashier was burned with hot coffee when she asked a man whose nose was exposed to adjust his face mask, police said.

John Dedolce, 42, of Randolph, wore a mask on Friday at a QuickChek in Cedar Knolls that only covered his mouth, prompting a cashier to ask him to properly cover up, The Daily Voice reports, citing Hanover Township police.

Dedolce then repeatedly refused the cashier’s requests to comply, so she canceled his order and asked him to leave. Dedolce proceeded to toss the food he was about to buy onto the floor and threw hot coffee at the cashier before fleeing the store, police said.

But the cashier — who had burns on her legs from the hot coffee — managed to jot down Dedolce’s license plate and provide it to cops when they arrived at the convenience store.

A complaint summons for simple assault, endangering another person and violating an executive order were mailed to Dedolce’s home, cops said.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order in early April mandating masks in all retail businesses. Anyone who refuses to wear a mask could face up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine under a bill proposed in the state Assembly, NJ.com reports.

Attempts to reach Dedolce early Tuesday were unsuccessful.
