Nintendo announced a successor to the seven-year-old “Nintendo Switch” in a Twitter message today.

It has now been almost 10 years since Nintendo announced plans for the “Nintendo Switch” console in the summer of 2015. The console was released in March 2017, around seven years ago. It's no wonder that many Nintendo fans have been waiting for news about a possible successor for a long time. Now something seems to be happening! Like Nintendo today X (ehem. Twitter) has announced, a successor to the Nintendo Switch will be announced in the current financial year (this lasts until the end of March 2025). However, one can currently only speculate about a possible release date.

However, it has already been warned that no new information should be expected until June. There will be another Nintendo Direct keynote in June 2024. But only new games will be discussed there; the new Switch will not play a role there.

The Nintendo Switch has already been sold that many times

The Nintendo Switch is one of the biggest box office hits ever. Since launch in 2017, over 141 million consoles have been sold worldwide, only slightly behind the Nintendo DS (154 million) and the Playstation 2 (160 million). In the 2023 financial year alone, the console sold over 15 million units.
