#NFL playoffs will still be interesting for Jets fans

#NFL playoffs will still be interesting for Jets fans

The Jets are out of the playoffs for the 10th straight season. That means another January filled with watching other teams for Jets fans.

Here’s the thing, though — you will see some familiar faces on those playoff teams this year. It could give you a rooting interest for … or against, depending on how you feel about former Jets.

Let’s look at the 14 teams currently in playoff position. You can start with the Seahawks and Jamal Adams. The 2017 first-round pick was beloved by Jets fans when he was here, but left a bad taste in fans’ mouths with the way he shot his way out of town. An early exit from the playoffs would make Jets fans happy, not just for seeing him quieted but it would also mean the Jets get a better draft pick from Seattle from the Adams trade. Playoff teams’ draft-pick positions are determined by the round in which they lose.

If Seattle advances, Adams could see some former teammates. The Saints have Demario Davis in the middle of their defense and Davis is playing much better than he ever did with the Jets. The Cardinals have Kelvin Beachum starting at right tackle. The Buccaneers not only have former coach Todd Bowles as their defensive coordinator but also Steve McLendon, who was shipped away in October.

In the AFC, Avery Williamson may be the luckiest man in America to have gone from the winless Jets to the undefeated Steelers. He could get a chance to hit former teammate Le’Veon Bell if the Steelers and Chiefs meet in the AFC title game. The Bills have longtime Jet Brian Winters starting at guard and 2013 Jets first-round pick Sheldon Richardson is starting on the defensive line of the Browns.

Jets fans will have to wait at least one more year to see their team back in the playoffs, but that does not mean they won’t have some rooting interests in this year’s postseason.
