#New Yorkers sending Ubers to help voters get to polls for Georgia Senate races

Uber-loving New Yorkers are directing resources South to aid their favored candidates and get voters to the polls in two key Georgia races that could decide which party controls the US Senate.

The race pits Democrats Jon Ossoff and the Rev. Raphael Warnock against GOP incumbents David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, respectively.

The left-leaning millennial advocacy group Plus1Vote — co-founded by New Yorker Saad Amer — is putting up funds to have Ubers drive Georgia voters to and from the polls for the Jan. 5 Senate run-off elections and the early voting days that precede it.

The not-for-profit groups aim to promote representation for minorities, women and the LGBT community and supports liberal policies promoting climate change, social justice, health care, gun rights and voting rights.

“We are utilizing the Uber platform to provide free rides to the polls and will cover trips to and from the polls for early voting, rides to drop off absentee ballots to ballot drop boxes, and rides on Election day for the Georgia Senate runoff,” Amer told The Post

The Uber ride campaign is being run in partnership with the like-minded New Georgia Project — the voting rights group founded by failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and until recently led by Warnoff — that is being probed for alleged improper registration activities, including sending voter registration applications to New York City addresses.

Plus1Vote had paid for Lyft rides to get voters to and from the polls in Georgia and other southern states during the Nov. 3 general election.

Meanwhile, New York Young Democrats are also kicking off phone banking and texting campaigns to Peach State voters beginning Dec. 12.

And the left-leaning group Persist Brooklyn and the Working Families Party are calling Georgia voters on Dec. 9 and 16.

“Please sign up for a shift so we can reach as many voters as possible and win these critical runoffs!” Brooklyn Councilman Brad Lander, who is joining the effort, said in an email pitch.

On other side of the aisle, New York Republicans are pitching in to help put Georgia’s GOP candidates over the top.

State GOP chairman Nick Langworthy is hosting a virtual fundraiser Thursday night to aid Perdue and Loeffler. Senate GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky will be the special guest.

The New York GOP is also discussing phone banking from New York and other efforts to get out the vote.

The Republicans maintain control of the Senate if at least one of the two incumbents wins.

Democrats have to win both seats to get a 50-50 tie. Incoming Vice President Kamala Harris could then cast the tie-breaking vote for Democrats during any partisan split.

Amer, who resides in Medford on Long Island, emphasized that Plus1Vote works nationally and had been on the ground in Georgia before the intense interest in the Senate runoffs.

“The implications of the Georgia runoffs are immense. In addition to adequate representation in the Senate for Georgians, the future of policy on climate change, social justice and voting rights rests on what happens in these runoffs,” Amer said.

“Georgia is no stranger to intense voter suppression efforts. It is essential that we mobilize voters and support local organizers to get out the vote. All eyes are on Georgia,” he added.
