NEW MUSIC FRIDAY – Lil Yachty and his new album Let’s Start Here, Styles P’s Penultimate: A Calm Wolf Is Still A WolfLP and Summrs’ Stuck In My Ways project headline the latest edition of HipHopDX‘s New Music Friday Albums coverage.

Meanwhile, Drake’s X-factor OVO Sound dancehall artist Popcaan delivers his Great Is He album, YeloHill and Suga Free connect for their collaborative Suga Hill release and Detroit-bred EMPIRE signee Talibando also shares his War Lord LP.

Check out the fill list of projects released Friday (January 27) below:

Lil Yachty – Let’s Start Here

Lil Yachty has proven time and time again that he can harness adversity, recently making the best out of a bad situation. After taking the internet and music world by storm in with his off-kilter anthem “Poland,” last October, 2022 almost ended in disaster for Lil Boat after an album’s worth of material titled SONIC RANCH leaked online in December.

The Quality Control signee didn’t falter, though, and instead readied his “psychedelic alternative project” for the masses while racking up production credits on Drake and 21 Savage’s hit collab album Her Loss.

And now, after over two years, fans can experience Lil Yachty’s first solo release since his rap-heavy 2021 album Michigan Boy Boat. Stream Let’s Start Here in it’s entirety above.

Styles P – Penultimate: A Calm Wolf Is Still A Wolf

Styles P may have announced his plans to retire last October, but it appears he is sticking to his word in regards to delivering two final albums before checking out for good.

The LOX MC and staunch vegan actually had plans to begin his Hip Hop victory lap last year in December, but delayed the release of his new album following the unexpected death of beloved music manager and mogul Hovain Hylton. Now, following the release of his recent “Death Before Dishonor” single, Styles P unleashes his lyrically ferocious album Penultimate: A Calm Wolf Is Still A Wolf.

The 10-track album serves as Style P’s first solo release since his 2021 project Ghosting.

Summrs – Stuck In My Ways

Summrs is hitting the ground running in 2023 after having an amazing breakout year in 2022.

The Louisiana native ended the year with over one-point-three million monthly listener’s on Spotify following the release of his massive FALLEN RAVEN album last June.

And now, just days after appearing on Trippie Redd’s Mansion Musik album cut “Biggest Bird,” Summrs continues on his upward path of trajectory with his confidently stubborn Stuck In My Ways EP.

Popcaan – Great Is He

Popcaan’s legacy as a genre-bending, cultural socialite proceeds him.

Whenever his lyrics aren’t being quoted by megastars such as Rihanna, it appears Popcaan is hanging out on exclusive tropical islands with high-profile names such as NBA champion Kevin Durant and multi-platinum Dreamville MC J. Cole.

And on the heels of his scorching-hot “We Caa Done” collaboration with Drake, the Jamaican dancehall singer adds yet another layer to the lore of his career with his album Great Is He.

Talibando – War Lord

Talibando’s music is breaking out far beyond his native Detroit, and yet he still manages to always put on for the Motor City no matter what.

Functioning as both a solo artist and >member of Babyface Ray’s Wavy Navy Team, he’s also tied in with popular Michigan rappers such as Peezy, Icewear Vezzo and Baby Smoove, among others.

So in a sense, it feels right that Talibando has joined forces with Detroit rap talent such as BabyTron and Veeze for his new album War Lord.

YeloHill & Suga Free – Suga Hill

YeloHill and Suga Free are a match made in West Coast Hip Hop heaven.

The rising L.A. lyricist and veteran Pomona MC combine the worlds of the new generation with the nostalgia of OG California rap on their fresh collaborative project that is overflowing with the “ism” and tons of SoCal flare.

Peep the complete six-track SugaHill EP, which is home to their breakout single “Vice City” and guest features from artists such as Jay Worthy, Hit-Town and IamBillyDee.

BiC Fizzle – Clark Street Baby

DC The Don – Scared At Heart

Fatboi Sharif & Roper Williams – Planet Unfaithful

There are also several highlights in this week’s New Music Friday singles coverage, including new releases from Bas, DaBaby, Daniel Caesar, Rae Sremmurd, EST Gee, Don Toliver and Zack Bia, and more.
