New Gundam UT Shirts Launch at Uniqlo Japan

A new line of Mobile Suit Gundam UT shirts debuted at Uniqlo Japan on April 14 JST. The four shirts mark the 45th anniversary of the mecha franchise.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed series, and the original Mobile Suit Gundam each get one bespoke shirt. The Witch from Mercury shirt includes the line “If you run, you gain one. If you move forward, you gain two” on the back.

The fourth shirt grabs Gundams from multiple series and settings for its main graphic, including the Freedom Gundam and the Unicorn Gundam.

All of the shirts cost 1,990 yen (~US$13.92).

In addition to the UT clothes, Uniqlo has implemented two Alternate Reality plans. One involves a life-sized Gundam, which can be found at Uniqlo Sendai Aer, Uniqlo Shinjuku Nishiguchi, Uniqlo Diver City Odaiba Plaza, Uniqlo Aeon Mall Nagoya Dome Mae, Uniqlo Aeon Mall Kyoto, Uniqlo SHINSAIBASHI, and Uniqlo Lalaport Fukuoka. The other one doesn’t require you to be near one of those stores or even in Japan. Click on this link with your phone and grant camera access permission, and you can see the RX-78 landing on the UT logo before jumping away. The sense of immersion might be higher if you don’t view it indoors.
