Site creator David Minns bills his new matchmaking app, 20 Dating, as the “World’s 1st extreme age gap dating site.” The site only matches users with people 20 years younger or older than them, and photos are optional.
“Trying to connect with someone more than 20 years older/younger on a product like Tinder or Bumble is at best going to end up with a lot of rejection,” Minns told Metro UK of his inspiration to create the site, which he hopes will help diminish the stigma in dating people significantly older or younger than themselves. “Everyone knows where they stand on 20 — and you cannot even take a sneaky look at someone with a 19-year gap. It’s like being socially distanced by 20 years!”
There’s no swiping on 20 Dating, or barriers to communication, meaning the algorithm allows all users with the appropriate age gap to instantly contact one another.
“If you want to date someone much younger than yourself then 20 is the best place to be,” reads the site’s FAQ section. “Finding an 18 or 20 year old interested in a 40 year old on a ‘standard’ dating site could be a real challenge. At 20 you know everyone is open to a larger age gap.”
Currently the site has a 66% male, 32% female and 2% transgender gender ratio breakdown among its few hundred users. Membership is free and only an email is required to sign up.
Minns isn’t the only tech creator to think up the idea of an age gap-based matchmaking site. The free app Gaper, launched in the Apple store last year, also specializes in connecting lovers with many years between them.
Previously, Minns has experimented with applying other niche concepts to dating sites.
“I love making dating products that are difficult to achieve on a mainstream site,” he said. His other love-finding creations include Butterfly, a transgender dating app designed to prevent the use of offensive language; Big One, a site for men with large penises; and Dinky One, a site for men with small penises.
“Dinky One was created to help guys who are smaller than average,” Minns told The Post earlier this year. “Smaller guys can use the site privately and date outside of their usual network. Everyone understands the situation in advance, allowing couples to focus on getting to know each other and dating.”
