Starting next month, you’ll be able to enjoy a new Netflix Basic with Ads plan for only $6.99 per month. It’s an affordable option for users, but it’s not all good news.

Earlier this year, Netflix revealed that an affordable ad-supported plan would arrive in 2023 to regain many of the subscribers it lost over the last 12 months, but then rumors suggested a launch before the end of the year. Well, it’s now official, and Netflix just announced its new Basic plan with ads coming on November 3rd.

Netflix Basic with Ads will be $6.99 in the US and will launch in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and the UK to start. The company says users can expect around 4-5 ads per hour, which run between 15-30 seconds long. However, that’s not the only thing you’ll want to consider.

As expected, thanks to earlier rumors, the new Netflix ad plan won’t have as many features or content as regular plans. For starters, it’ll only stream your favorite movies and shows in 720p resolution, which could make it a no-go for some users.

Netflix Basic with Ads still works on a wide range of TV, consoles, and mobile devices, but you won’t be able to download content to watch offline, as that’ll be a feature reserved for more expensive plans. Additionally, Netflix did confirm that “a limited number of movies and TV shows won’t be available due to licensing restrictions, which we’re working on.”

Overall, this new Netflix ad-supported tier arrives at a competitive price and should give users and potential customers more options. That said, don’t be surprised if it gets a price hike in a few years, something we’ve seen time and time again from the streaming giant.
