#Netflix Unveils Second Teaser for Spriggan, Announces 2022 Delay

Netflix revealed a second teaser for its upcoming anime Spriggan, showcasing various action scenes in both 3D and 2D animation. It also announced a new 2022 premiere date, a delay from the previously announced 2021 release date.

The action anime is directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi (Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan, Kiznaiver) with character designs and chief animation director duties handled by Shūhei Handa (Little Witch Academia main character designer). David Production is in charge of the animation production. Other staff include Shōhei Miyake (Carole and Tuesday episode director) as assistant director, JNTHED (Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker mecha designer) as production designer, Norihito Ishii (Penguin Highway) as CG director, Osamu Mikasa (Dororo) as color designer, Yūji Kaneko (Godzilla Singular Point) as art director, and Yōsuke Motoki (Fire Force) as photography director. Meanwhile, Chiaki Kobayashi is voicing protagonist Yū Ominae.

The anime is based on the manga written by Hiroshi Takashige and drawn by Ryōji Minagawa, which ran from 1989 to 1996. The manga was adapted into an anime movie in 1998 and into a video game in 1999.

Netflix describes Spriggan as:

The legendary manga that took the world by storm in the 1990s has been vividly brought to this animated series by utilizing 2D drawings and 3DCG. The legacy of an outstanding civilization that once existed on this planet is said to still be hidden in various parts of the world. The military of major powers has intervened in the excavation and research of this mysterious and powerful heritage, and has begun battling over it. At the same time, an organization called “Spriggan” is working to seal up this ancient civilization. This is a high speed action series featuring battles over ancient relics!
