In the special live-streaming program on Nico Nico Live last night, it was officially announced that a new anime film based on Yuki Midorikawa's supernatural mystery shoujo manga Natsume Yujin-cho plans its limited theatrical run in Japan in early spring of 2021. It has been two years since the previous film Natsume Yujin-Cho: Utsusemi ni Musubu (Natsume Yujin-cho the Movie: Ephemeral Bond) was released in Japan in September 2018.

The title of the film is Natsume Yujin-cho: Ishi Okoshi to Ayashiki Raihousha (Natsume Yujin-cho: The Waking Rock and the Strange Visitor).  Utsusemi's director Hideki Ito returns to the director's chair, alongside the general director Takahiro Omori. Shuka, previously worked on the TV anime's fifth and sixth season, again works on anime production.

The film will be based on the manga's two popular yet-animated episodes – "Ishi Okoshi" and "Ayashiki Raihousha."

"Ishi Okoshi" story:

In the forest, Natsume encounters a small youkai, Mitsumi, who has been in charge of "Ishi Okoshi" to wake up a divine-class youkai called Iwatetsu from its deep sleep. However, Nyanko-sensei and other yokai start plotting to take over the role of "Ishi Okoshi" in order to get the reward's sake. Natsume, who is concerned about Mitsumi, decides to help.

"Ayashiki Raihousha" story:

A mysterious visitor who appears to Tanuma. He comes to visit Tanuma almost every day to talk for a short time and then leaves. Natsume is worried about Tanuma when he learns that the visitor is a youkai, but Tanuma has come to enjoy interacting with it. Apparently, the youkai doesn't intend to do anything bad, but Tanuma's health starts to get worse little by little…
