Amazon has released a trailer for its upcoming Modern Love Tokyo: Samazama na Ai no Katachi Amazon Original, which includes a sneak peek of the romance anthology’s only animated episode. 

The anime episode is helmed by former Kyoto Animation director Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird, K-On!), who recently directed The Heike Story and Garden of Remembrance at Science Saru as well as a Kit Kat ad. The episode’s main characters are voiced by Haru Kuroki and Masataka Kubota.

Modern Love Tokyo is an adaptation of the Modern Love American series, which received two seasons in 2019 and 2021 respectively and is inspiring a Dutch adaptation as well. Its theme song is “Setting Sail ~Modern Love Tokyo” by Awesome City Club. Aside from Yamada, the contributing directors include Atsuko Hirayanagi, Kyuichi Hiroki, Nobuhiko Yamashita, Naoko Ogigami, and Kurosawa Kiyoshi. 

The original series is inspired by the New York Times column of the same name.
