Story (8/10)

After Hachiman’s emotional outburst, Yui and Yukino support him with Iroha’s difficult assignment and the planning of the Christmas event. Back from the trip to Destiny Land, the Helper Club and the Student Council decide to go on the offensive in order to carry out the event successfully. But besides all the hustle and bustle, one question remains unanswered: What is the “real thing” that Hachiman, Yui and Yukino long for?

Personaly thinking (Warning, spoilers!)

With the last episodes of the second season there is a lot of movement in the plot, which previously stagnated a bit before. With the support of Yui and Yukino, we finally manage to move forward with the planning of the Christmas party.

In addition, in the third volume we finally get to see more interaction between the members of the helper club. For example, Yukino and Hachiman are invited home by Yui – an action that a few episodes previously would not have really been conceivable due to the tense climate. Progress can also be seen on the romantic level: While the series had so far only offered a few such elements, despite the name, there were now more scenes in which there were sparks. I welcomed this turnaround, as the way the club members interacted with one another had rather cooled off in the previous volumes.

On the other hand, the performances of Haruno, Yukino’s older sister, were frustrating for me. Again and again she brings situations with her comments to the brink of escalation, which becomes exhausting for the viewer in the long run. Actually, she just wants to help Yukino, which is not immediately apparent due to her idiosyncratic approach. These multi-layered and inscrutable character traits form the core trademark of “My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU”. As I have already explained in my previous reviews, this makes it much more difficult to understand the series and makes it comparatively difficult to eat.

The finale of the second season confirms this all too clearly: After watching the final conversation between the club members, I first had to read a fan analysis to understand the content of the scene. As it turns out, the (romantic) relationship status of the three still results: It’s complicated.

Animations (8.5 / 10)

Since “My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Too!” Of course, it is not about an action-heavy fighting anime, the freedom of movement of the characters is limited. Apart from the dialogue scenes, in which mostly only the mouths move, the animations are from the house feel. but pretty well done and look realistic.

The backgrounds also show an appropriate level of detail and fit well into the overall picture. A great deal of attention was paid to the color scheme, for example the warmer tones of the sunset create a melancholy mood.

Music (9/10)

As with my last review, I have to state that there will be no changes in terms of opening and ending. I still like both songs – the outro so much that I made my own cover version of it.

Regarding the background music, several things stand out in the last episodes: On the one hand, they put a lot of emphasis on the opening and ending of the first season by playing them during the episodes. This creates an almost nostalgic effect, which I liked.

Second, many piano pieces were used again at a slow pace, especially in emotional places. Due to the solo instrumentation, the background music is rather reserved and allows the scenes to come into their own.

German localization (9/10)

The German version of “My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Too!” was created at G&G Studios in Kaarst. Tom Sielemann wrote the dialogue book, while Richard Westerhaus was responsible for the dialogue direction.

Here I would like to positively emphasize once again that the dialogue book was written very authentically and in no way represents a blunt adoption of the rough translation. A little more vivid: When Hachiman mentions the name of his sister Komachi in a scene, Iroha asks confused in the Japanese version whether this is the name of a rice variety. In the German synchronization, however, she thinks of a Pokémon. Even if a bit clichéd, this association seems more natural in this country than its Japanese counterpart – and in my opinion this is a good localization.

Praise can also be expressed again with regard to the text translation in the image material. For example, for the context of a scene, the somewhat longer labeling of an information board is important. This could have been solved much less elegantly with subtitles. Therefore I am glad that AniMoon is not afraid of the additional effort in this regard.

Packaging & Extras (8/10)

When packing the volume, AniMoon once again relied on a mediabook. There is also a glued-in booklet that contains artwork from Japanese magazines as well as background information on the characters in the series. The few pages contained are not earth-shattering, but a nice detail compared to other anime publications.

As an extra, fans can expand their collection of acrylic figures. This time a miniature version of the teacher Shizuka Hiratsuka is included. In terms of workmanship, the figure made a good impression on me. The packaging with protective film, plastic bag and envelope is also quite generous, which of course promises more rubbish on the one hand, but also a scratch-free surface on the other.

Unfortunately, the disc itself only contains the mandatory extras: a special opening and the clean version of the ending.

Conclusion

AniMoon Publishing successfully completes the German release of the second season with the last volume. Above all, the German synchronization and the design of the volume are convincing.

In terms of content, the series makes visible progress in the relationship between Hachiman, Yukino and Yui. Nevertheless, the season finale is not really the end – in the words of the volume blurb: “This is not the end yet!”. Finally, the third and final season awaits us, which will also be released on disc in this country.

Will the series finally do justice to its romantic element in the name? One can stay excited.
