At the end of the PV for the first volume of its manga adaptation drawn by Yu Satomi, it was announced that an anime adaptation of Motoo Nakanishi’s fantasy novel Kijin Gentosho is now in the works. How and when it is distributed is currently unknown.

The novel was first serialized on the Japanese user-generated novel publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou from December 2015 to October 2016, then its print edition has been published from Futabahsa since June 2019. So far seven volumes have been available in Japan and the series has printed more than 230,000 copies. The first volume of its manga adaptation is released in Japan today, September 9. Both the CM for the novel posted a month ago and the manga version posted today are narrated by Taku Yashiro (Kakeru Juouin in KING OF PRISM).

The publisher introduces its first volume’s synopsis below:

In the Edo period, there was a shrine maiden called “Itsukihime” in the mountain village of Kadono. Jinta, a young man who acts as the shrine maiden’s guardian despite being a stranger, encounters a mysterious demon who speaks of the far future in the forest where he went to defeat it. From Edo to the Heisei era, this is the first volume of a huge Japanese fantasy series about a demon man who travels through time while continuously questioning the meaning of wielding a sword.
