“#Mom recalls warning to son killed in Bronx deli shooting”
The grief-stricken mother of the man gunned down in a Bronx deli tried to warn her “good-hearted” son not to go outside — and said his fatal shooting was her “worst nightmare.”

“I don’t want you on the street,” Marisol Sanchez told her 21-year-old son Jayquan Lewis when he offered Friday afternoon to pick up a few beverages to cool them off on the scorching day, she said in an interview.
“He said ‘Mommy, I love you. I’ll be right back’ and I said ‘I love you too,’ ” Sanchez tearfully recounted Friday of her last words with the boy.
Sanchez — who didn’t immediately say why she warned her son — then went to take a shower and was getting dressed when she got a call that Jayquan, whom she called JJ, had been shot.

She ran to the nearby deli on Bainbridge Avenue in Fordham.

“They were doing CPR on him,” she recounted while clutching rosary beads.
Video from the deli showed Lewis at the counter with a bottle of water just before a gunman emerges from the back of the store and starts firing at him.
Sanchez said seeing her son shot was “Your worst nightmare ever. “
She described her son as “very good-hearted.”
“He’s a kid. I’m not going to say that he’s a great kid. He’s a boy,” she said. “They get into fights, arguments. But he’s a good kid. He’s good-hearted. He’s very good-hearted.”
