#Minneapolis George Floyd mural vandalized

A mural for George Floyd at the Minneapolis intersection where he died in police custody has been vandalized, according to a report.

The massive work of art at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue was covered with a blue tarp late Wednesday after officials said a vandal sprayed black paint over Floyd’s face and eyes, WCCO-TV reported Thursday.

Residents are now looking for an artist to restore the mural, the outlet said.

The mural, which showed a likeness of Floyd with his name and a backdrop of a sunflower on a blue background, had become the central feature in a memorial that sprouted up at the intersection following his May 25 death in Minneapolis police custody.

Police bodycam footage shows police question Floyd over a counterfeit $20 bill he allegedly tried to use at a local store — and later died while being pinned down by cops despite repeatedly pleading, “I can’t breathe.”

The four officers — including Derek Chauvin, who is seen with his knee pinned to the back of Floyd’s neck — were fired the following day and now face criminal charges in his death.

The Minneapolis tribute mural to Floyd wasn’t the only one in the North Star State targeted by vandals this week.

Another mural in Rochester, Minnesota — about 90 miles south of Minneapolis — was also defaced, KIMT-TV reported Wednesday.

Artist Willow Gentile, who painted that mural, called the vandalism “heartwrenching” and “really like a slap in the face,” the outlet said.

But Gentile said she’s organizing a community painting session to restore his work.

“We need so many more positives to combat that negative,” she said. “I hope people realize you really need to stick together to make actions really stay present.”
