Minivan Crashes Into Crowd Near Downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District, Injuring Nine Pedestrians

At least nine people were injured Sunday after a minivan crashed into a crowd of people in downtown Los Angeles.

The incident occurred at 3:16 p.m. PT on 12th street, near the Santee Alley and L.A.’s Fashion District, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. It’s unclear what caused the accident, which is under investigation.

CBS Los Angeles reported that the van “veered off the road and into a group of pedestrians.”

The LAFD said all nine people — which included three kids — were in “fair condition” immediately after the incident.

The LAFD said those injured included two 23-year-old women, who were released against medical advice. In addition, there were our other women, ages 54, 65, 30 and 23, and three boys, ages 8, 11, and 17, who were all taken to a hospital.

NBC Los Angeles noted that the vehicle still trapped near the entrance of the Santee Alley as of 4:30 p.m., while a section of 12th Street had been blocked off. The Department of Transportation was notified to conduct traffic control.

According to CBS L.A., several K rails were seemingly struck by the vehicle, while a portion of an awning appears to have fallen and landed on top of the van.

The Santee Alley, an outdoor shopping experience, is located between Santee Street and Maple Avenue from Olympic Boulevard to 12th Street.
