#Michael Keaton Wins First Emmy Award for Hulu Series Dopesick

“Michael Keaton Wins First Emmy Award for Hulu Series Dopesick”

At the Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday night, Michael Keaton won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series, Movie or Anthology for his performance in the Hulu series Dopesick. This marks the first Emmy win for Keaton following his prior nomination in 2004 for his work on the documentary Fred Rogers: America’s Favorite Neighbor. Keaton also won the Golden Globe and the SAG Award for his Dopesick role this year.

The other nominees in that category included Colin Firth for HBO’s The Staircase; Andrew Garfield for FX’s Under the Banner of Heaven; Oscar Isaac for HBO’s Scenes from a Marriage; Himesh Patel for HBO’s Station Eleven; and Sebastian Stan for Hulu’s Pam & Tommy.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I watched all of the cowboy shows, especially the comedies, and all the gangster shows, and I fell in love with it,” Keaton said in his acceptance speech, per THR. “I would go and I would re-enact the scenes, or create my own scenes, and my parents and my brothers and sisters would watch me out the window. And to this day, they were never demeaning. They were never dismissive. They never looked down upon it. They never made fun of me. And in fact, they would ask me to re-enact scenes for them.”

Going on to thank his family for that support, Keaton added, “I want to thank them. I just want to thank all those people in my family for never making me feel foolish because I went on to do that several times myself. And that’s the thing about feeling foolish and making a fool of yourself and making mistakes. There’s huge power and merit in that. And I’m glad I made a fool of myself over and over and over again. And one more thing I want to say: Over the years, we’ve all been through tough times. There have been some doubters. I’ve had some doubters. You know what? We’re cool.”

At one point, Keaton was bleeped, though the actor had reportedly said, “I f***ing love you.”

Michael Keaton Will Return as Batman in The Flash

It has been widely reported that Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Batman from the Tim Burton movies for The Flash, due to arrive in theaters next year. He had also returned as Batman for the HBO Max movie Batgirl, but fans will not get to see this return as the film was controversially canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery. Speaking with Deadline hot off his Emmy win, Keaton addressed the demise of Batgirl and chalked it up to a business decision.

“I think it was a business decision,” he said. “It was a film, it was a good one.”

On when we will see his Batman again, Keaton responded, “Oh, a little later tonight. No, I’m kidding. I don’t know. I really have no idea.”

You can check out Keaton in Dopesick by finding the series streaming on Hulu. He will also return as Batman in The Flash which hits theaters on June 23, 2023.
