Two more cast members and a new key visual have been published for On Air Dekinai! (“I Can’t Go On Air!”), an upcoming TV anime based on the humorous, autobiographical essay manga by Kana Mifune about the trials and tribulations of working as a glorified go-fer at a television production studio.

In On Air Dekinai!, comedian Akira Kawashima (of the comedy duo Kirin) will provide narration for the show, while comedian Ryota Yamasato (of the comedy duo The Nankai Candles) will appear as himself as the host of a music program in Episode 03. The new key visual (below) features cartoon likenesses of Kawashima and Yamasato in the top-center of the picture.

Set in 2014, On Air Dekinai! follows the adventures of Mafuneko (age 23), a newly minted assistant director who joins the TV production department at Tokyo Hajikko Television, only to discover that the glamorous and glitzy life of working behind-the-scenes making TV shows involves strange and inexplicable tasks such as “gathering 300 acorns” and “making a mosaic out of the images reflected in the camera lens”. Despite being surrounded by chaos, set-backs, and weirdos, Mafuneko struggles to become a fully-fledged TV producer.

On Air Dekinai! is directed by Jun Aoki and features animation production by Jinnan Studio and Space Neko Company. The series will broadcast in Japan according to the following TV schedule:

  • BS TV Tokyo: every Sunday during the 25:05 time slot beginning on January 09, 2022.
  • TV Tokyo: every Monday during the 26:30 time slot beginning on January 10, 2022.
  • AT-X: every Thursday during the 22:16 time slot beginning on January 13, 2022.

Please note that some Japanese TV schedules count early-morning programming as late-night programming for the previous day, so for example the 25:05 time slot on Sunday evening is actually on Monday morning at 1:05am JST.
