A storm chaser covering Hurricane Laura had a terrifying close call live on air when he was nearly zapped by a flash of electricity.

KSAT meteorologist Justin Horne was broadcasting early Thursday when an electrical explosion occurred behind him, causing a massive flash in Orange, Texas.

“That’s not good,” he could be heard saying in the video posted to Twitter.

“We’re going to get out of the way of that.”

Horne on Twitter later updated viewers that an exploding transformer was the source of the flash.

“To be clear, it was a blown transformer, not falling power lines that created the flash behind us,” he wrote.

He added that he was okay following the close call while reporting on the hurricane.

“This is what we feared may happen,” he wrote on Twitter, adding, “We are safe.”

Laura pounded the Gulf Coast with ferocious wind and devastating floods Thursday after coming ashore in Louisiana near the Texas border.
