“#In This Corner of the World Director Sunao Katabuchi Posts A Fourth Anniversary Message”

The 129-minute original version of the anime film adaptation of Fumiyo Kouno's award-winning manga Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni / In This Corner of the World was released in Japan on November 12, 2016. On the fourth-anniversary day, the film's director Sunao Katabuchi posted his message on Twitter to look back at the four years since its release.

"Today is the fourth anniversary of the release of the film In This Corner of The World. I have received many tweets and I'm looking back on the various pages that I have spent a long, long time with this film. Since the release four years ago, so many people have been able to encounter this film. Thank you for your continued support."

たくさんのツィートをいただいて、長い長い時間をこの映画とともに過ごしてきた、その様々なページを振り返っています。
4年前の公開以来、ほんとうにたくさんの皆様にこの映画と出会っていただくことができました。

The film's original version earned an impressive 2.7 billion yen from its 1,133-day domestic run against a production cost of 250 million yen and received various awards, including the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Animated Film and the Jury Award at the 41st Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

Thanks to the commercial and critical success, the 150-minute extended edition with newly-animated 30-minute footage that reflected the director's original vision, Kono Sekai no (Sarani Ikutsumono) Katasumi ni / In This Corner (and Other Corners) of the World, was released in Japan on December 20, 2019.
