Drug addiction has been steadily on the rise in Hip Hop circles, including notable acts such as Mac Miller, Juice WRLD and recently The Wire actor Michael K. Williams tragically losing their lives to overdoses.

With his new podcast, Hip Hop veteran MC Serch will partner with journalist and HipHopDX’s own Kyle Eustice to further examine the battles people go through with addiction and the gifts they earn through recovery.

The podcast, titled Breaking Anonymity will see Serch and Eustice chat with seasoned artists, actors, skateboarders and anyone else in the recovery community who can offer a little experience, strength and hope.

On Monday, Serch was among many who paid tribute to Williams, who was found dead in his NYC apartment. He was 54.

“@bkbmg RIP to a real one, Michael K Williams,” he wrote on Instagram. “54 is way too young to leave us. Love and Light upon his memory always.”

With Breaking Anonymity, guests such as Run-DMC legend Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, House of Pain’s Danny Boy, professional skateboarder Brandon Novak, Talking Heads soundman Frank Gallagher, Royce Da 5’9, Mobb Deep’s Havoc, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Flesh N Bone, iconic Hip Hop photographer Joe Conzo and many, many more will offer first-hand perspective on coming out of the other side of addiction.

Breaking Anonymity premieres on September 29, with episodes arriving every Wednesday. Timeless Podcast Company will produce the podcast, the same audio house which hosts Serch’s Did I Ever Tell You About… show and Serch Says.

According to a recent study, drug overdoses rose by 30 percent in the United States in 2020, the highest number ever recorded and addiction affects one in three individuals, directly or indirectly.
