#Matt Amodio’s ‘Jeopardy!’ streak is over: New champ crowned

The end is here for reigning “Jeopardy!” champ Matt Amodio.

Amodio’s 38-game winning streak came to an end during Monday night’s episode after Florida native Jonathan Fisher snagged the highest score.

Fisher won a total of $29,200, beating Jessica Stephens, a statistical research specialist from Nashville. While she was in the lead during several moments of the game, she found herself in second place with $28,799. Amodio came in third, pocketing $5,600.

Fisher landed on the two Daily Doubles in the Double Jeopardy! round and he answered the Final Jeopardy! question correctly. Amodio, however, did not reach this round.

The category was “Countries of the World” and the clue read: “Nazi Germany annexed this nation and divided it into regions of the Alps and the Danube. The Allies would later divide it into four sectors.”

The answer? “What is Austria?”

“Everybody’s so smart and so competent that this could happen any game,” Amodio said. “And this time it did.”

The former winner finished his streak in the second spot on the consecutive wins list behind Ken Jennings (with 74 wins). Amodio raked up $1,518,601 in prize money during his time on “Jeopardy!” The Yale grad student broke the $1 million mark during his 28th game in September. Amodio will soon return for the next Tournament of Champions.

“I always wanted to be a ‘Jeopardy!’ champion, and I accomplished that,” Amodio added. “l know going into every bar trivia game that I play that I’m going to come in with a little intimidation factor. But also, I just like the badge that it represents. As somebody who prioritizes knowledge and knowing things, this is really a good one to have following me everywhere.”

Since Sept. 20, Mayim Bialik has served as the show’s interim host following the firing of previous host Mike Richards.
