Mariah Carey samples Erik B. and Rakim on “Type Dangerous”

The pop icon returns with her first new solo material in six years.
Earlier this week Mariah Carey began teasing the arrival of “MC16,” with fans speculating that the legendary diva’s 16th album may well be in the pipeline. Today Carey has added fuel to the rumors with the release of a new song titled “Type Dangerous.” The track, Carey’s first solo release since 2019, samples Eric B. & Rakim’s Paid in Full song “Eric B. “I’m so excited to finally be releasing ‘Type Dangerous’ into the world!”, Carey said in press materials. “I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous’!”
It’s been almost seven years since Carey released her last album, 2018 project Caution. Since then she has mainly focused on her back catalog, putting out The Rarities in 2020, and, later that same year, confirming herself status as queen of the holidays with Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special. She also appeared on Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And?” remix as well as “Big Energy” with Latto.
