Crunchyroll already showed the hit “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” in German cinemas in March. It is now available on the streaming platform and is definitely worth a look.

Just a few days ago, Crunchyroll released the film for the popular anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen”. The film is based on the manga volume of the same name and Studio MAPPA took care of the implementation.

Plot of «Jujutsu Kaisen 0»:

As a child, Yūta Okkotsu had to watch his girlfriend Rika Orimoto die in an accident. Since then it has haunted him as a curse. Yūta even wishes for his own death until the strongest jujuzist, Satoru Gojō, accepts him at the Tokyo Municipal Jujutsu Academy. With renewed courage and his classmates Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki and Panda, Yūta finally wants to break the curse. But you must also try to stop the evil curse mage Suguru Getō, who wants to unleash a thousand curses on Shinjuku and Kyoto to wipe out all common people and create a jujuzist’s paradise.

My opinion on anime

Anime films are often recaps or sequels to the series that go with them, which is why newcomers don’t quite understand some of the backgrounds. “Jujutsu Kaisen 0”, on the other hand, is a prequel, i.e. a prequel. So you can get in here even without knowledge of the anime. You don’t quite understand smaller details, but they are not relevant to the story. As soon as you look into the film, you immediately notice the beautiful animations, which are still breathtaking during the fight scenes as the film progresses. And I also like the soundtrack, which creates a creepy mood, action or even emotional moments in a suitable scenario. I also really like the German dubbed version, which Charlotte Uhlig and René Dawn-Claude put a lot of effort into.

The story, on the other hand, is kept relatively simple and by and large it’s about “good versus evil” with a little backstory. In the course of the film you often see fights that don’t add much content to the story, but show the interaction of the characters and thus build a bond between the viewer and these characters. Unfortunately, the climax of the film drags on a bit, so at least I wasn’t very excited.

All in all «Jujutsu Kaisen 0» is an entertaining film with some weaknesses in the story. But if you also like action, entertainment and lots of fights, you will certainly be very well entertained with «Jujutsu Kaisen 0». The excellent animations make the fights all the more enjoyable to watch. In addition, the film prepares you very well for the anime series and you can also stream it on Crunchyroll.
