#Man confronted while dumping up to 100 eels in Prospect Park Lake

This was definitely ‘eeligal.’

A mystery man was confronted as he bizarrely dumped up to 100 eels into Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Lake — continuing even as he was warned he was “killing other life” in the water, video shows.

Dominick Pabon filmed himself as he confronted the slippery character at around 7.30 p.m. Sunday, he told NBC New York.

“That’s like 100 eels!” he could be heard telling the man, saying it was “f—ed up” and warning, “That’s not legal.”

“I don’t care,” the man replied — continuing to throw in the eels despite Pabon’s repeated warnings.

“You don’t need to call cops, I save lives!” the man told him, at one point saying he “bought them from the store.”

“He’s like, ‘Oh I save lives, I save lives,’ and I’m like, no, dude,’” Pabon recounted to NBC. “And he’s just throwing them in as we’re talking … 80 to 100 eels, just tossing them in, like nothing.”

Pabon, a Sunset Park resident who has been fishing in the park for 13 years, conjectured to the Brooklyn Paper the fish were likely some species of saltwater eel, as some attempted to free themselves from the freshwater lake.

“They were trying to swim back out of the lake, it was crazy,” he said.

He tried to flag down a passing police car but it did not stop, he said.

The Prospect Park Alliance confirmed to the station that “the release of pets and other animals in the park is illegal without a permit.”

“It is a hazard both to those animals and the plants and wildlife that call the park home,” the alliance said.

“The parks waterways and natural areas are fragile habitats, and this can disrupt these naturally occurring systems, introducing disease and other pathogens which can be harmful.”

Fines for illegal dumping in waterways range from $1,500 to $10,000 for the first violation, and not less than $5,000 or more than $20,000 for each subsequent time, the paper noted.
