#Maho Nare Anime Reveals New Trailer, Main Cast, More Staff

The Mahoutsukai ni Narenakatta Onnanoko no Hanashi (The Story of a Girl Who Couldn’t Become a Mage) fantasy anime has received a new trailer previewing the main characters Kurumi Mirai and Yuzu Edel. The two are voiced by Hana Hishikawa and Misuzu Yamada, respectively. 

New staff credits were also revealed. These include Lily Hoshino (Penguindrum) as original character designer, Mai Matsuura (King of Prism by Pretty Rhythm, Sirius the Jaeger co-character designer) as character designer, Yoko Shimamura (Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal) as music composer, Kentaro Izumi (A Certain Scientific Railgun T) as art director, Mika Funabashi (Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts) as color designer, and Yurina Yagi (Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts) as compositing director.

Maho Nare is scheduled for an October 2024 premiere. The story will follow Kurumi and Yuzu, one an air-headed girl who idolizes mages and the other the daughter of a prestigious magic family, as they study at a magic academy with complicated classmates, a suspicious association, and a hidden secret.

Maho Nare‘s story is based on a novel submission by Yuuzuki Akasaka, which emerged as the winner of Project ANIMA’s Isekai/Fantasy category. Project ANIMA is a joint initiative by DeNA, Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, Sotsu, and MBS that focuses on the production of original TV anime, with submitted novels, scripts, manga, and proposals providing the basis of these shows’ premises. The other categories are Science Fiction/Robot and Kids/Game.

The 2021 anime Sakugan came from the project’s Science Fiction/Robot category winner. The Kids/Game winner, Mevius Dust, is inspiring a Doga Kobo-produced anime. Project ANIMA’s submission and selection processes were executed between February 2018 and March 2019.
