Serena Williams on the retirement last week of the long-standing doubles team of twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan, 16-time Grand Slam winners: “I heard about it just as the tournament was starting. Honestly, I wasn’t ready for it. I knew it was going to come at some point, but, you know, I have been on tour with them our whole lives. It’s always sad to see another one go. It’s, like, OK, it moves me even closer to the line, and I’m trying to avoid the line.”
No. 20 Karolina Muchova, who knocked out Venus Williams in the first round, advanced to the fourth round for the first time in her career by ousting Sorana Cirstea of Romania in a third-set tiebreaker (9-7).
